It is with sadness that Westerra announces the recent passing of a Board Member, Ron Walker. Ron was a tireless and diligent member of our Board and contributed to Westerra’s growth, including attending meetings and providing input on initiatives that served Westerra’s members, until his final days.
Ron was elected to the JeffCo Credit Union Supervisory Committee in 2004 and served as chairman from 2005–2009. When JeffCo Credit Union merged with Westerra in 2009, he then served on our Westerra Supervisory/Audit Committee. In 2016, he was elected to the Board of Directors. A retired senior high school assistant principal serving JeffCo Public Schools for 34 years, including 24 years in administration and 10 years as the Driver Education Program manager, Ron also served on the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association Board for 12 years and volunteered for Boy Scouts of America for 10 years. Ron earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State College and Master's Degree in curriculum/instruction from the University of Northern Colorado.
“We are forever grateful for his invaluable contribution to Westerra and the larger Colorado credit union community,” said Steve Schmidle, Acting CEO for Westerra. “We express our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and privilege to know him.”
