My name is Deb Legge. In 1976, I started working for Safeway store 0581 in Rapid City, South Dakota. I have been a member of Westerra since February 6, 1977. Through the years, your credit union name has changed, however, the service and my needs has not. For years I have put money into my account as I had extra. Then, in 1982 my husband and I were married. By 1986, our first child was on the way. Each week's paycheck had a small amount of money taken out and deposited into my Westerra account. It was helpful to have that money out of sight, out of mind. Whenever something came up, I would simply draw money out and start over. In 1991, our second child came and expenses were paid using money from my Westerra account. In 1993, another big change happened in my life. My best friend and her son moved closer to family from Rapid City to Ft Worth, TX. For some this change would be a bump in the road, but for me, this was a train wreck. All I could think about was, "How on earth will I ever have the financial capacity to see her and her son again?" After the tears dried, I began thinking of a way to save money to fly to Ft. Worth. This is when my out of sight, out of mind theory kicked in again. I soon signed up for $10 to be taken out of each paycheck and deposited into my Westerra account. This may not seem like much, but we lived on a budget. For 15 years, every spring I have had enough saved to purchase an airplane ticket to Ft. Worth. My husband has always been supportive and has taken care of the children for my one week trip. This year, I have retired from Safeway after 32 years and 6 months of service. A lot has changed through the years, but the need for my credit union has not. Thank you for being there for me.
